One Major Star Wars Character Officially Announced His Retirement
One of the beloved characters from the lore, Kanan Jarrus, played by Freddie Prinze Jr. in the Star Wars animated series "Star Wars: Rebels," recently shared some surprising news. He revealed his emotional decision about appearing in future Star Wars projects.
He voiced Kanan Jarrus in 71 episodes, which ended with Kanan's heroic sacrifice in the episode "Jedi Night." Kanan's character regains sight but dies saving his friends, which was one of the most touching moments in the series.
In an interview, Prinze recently discussed his past work and disclosed something that has been bothering him. He said,
"My answer is no. I wouldn't do Star Wars, and I wouldn't want to play a different character. I don't like that. I don't like it when other actors do it either. I don't want you playing two superheros; play one. It's weird otherwise, right? Not that you can't do it if you're capable of doing it. I just want to see you as this guy or that guy. I wouldn't want to play a different one."
Kanan Jarrus had one of the most well-loved and satisfying endings in Star Wars history and changes that might have upset many fans. However, Freddie Prinze Jr. did come back to voice Kanan once more after "Rebels" ended. In the movie "Rise of Skywalker," Kanan's voice is heard along with other Jedi speaking to Rey.
Some actors are always excited about reprising their roles, but Freddie is not among those. He feels that returning to the role would disrespect the character’s story.
"I feel like every time Kanan gets put out there, since the cartoon, it dilutes the character a little bit. I wasn't even crazy about doing the voiceover in the last movie, and it took a couple of phone calls to convince me to do so. I didn't think Kana was that powerful to be a Force ghost that would communicate from the past."
