The Acolyte Introduces Legendary Lightsaber Weapon in Live-Action After 39 Years
Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh takes up one of the legendary lightsabers in the thrilling sixth episode of The Acolyte. The series explores the aftermath of a clash between the Jedi and Qimir, featuring Rwoh in a thrilling battle against an Umbramoth, a giant insect-like creature wielding a lightsaber whip.
In this most recent episode, Sol finds himself on a remote island, investigating a mysterious threat. He sends signals, hoping that Mog or Vernestra Rwoh will come to aid him if needed. Rwoh immediately organizes a team to rescue him but finds themselves stunned to see Sol’s entire team has vanished by lightsaber attacks.
This scene captures Rwoh wielding her lightwhip against Umbramoth and marks the live-action debut of one of the most anticipated lightsabers.
What is Lightwhip in Star Wars?
The lightwhip was first introduced in Marvel’s Star Wars Comics issue 95 by Mary Jo Duffy and Cynthia Martin in 1985. It was wielded by Lumiya, the Dark Lady of the Sith, who was trained in the ways of the Sith by Darth Vader.
The lightwhip is unlike traditional lightsabers, powered by a series of miniature kyber crystals, which allows the blade to last longer and be more flexible. Additionally, they are significantly more difficult to master than traditional lightsabers.
Other than Lumiya in the past and Rwoh now, Star Wars Sith Lord Githany, who considered herself the Darth Bane apprentice, also wielded it alongside her standard blade.
In Steven Barnes’s 2004 novel The Cestus Deception, Silri(a Nightsister) and Kit Fisto are additional Force users who receive a specially made lightwhip from Obi-Wan Kenobi.
