The Acolyte is Disney+'s Biggest Launch Of 2024 So Far
The latest release on Disney+, the Star Wars series The Acolyte, received 4.8 million views on its first day, making it the most successful streamer’s series to debut.
Disney previously reported that Star Wars: Ahsoka took five days to reach 14 million views, an average of 2.8 million views daily. However, Disney revealed ‘The Acolyte’ views really quickly.
Five years after the premiere of The Mandalorian on Disney+, the following Star Wars series proved to be ground-breaking. Fans and even critics like Alison Herman have also appreciated it. In her review, she said that the series, “propelled by plentiful action, much of it hand-to-hand combat heavily inflected with martial arts. But the action itself is rooted in a conflict with stakes both large and small for characters we quickly come to care about.”
On the other hand, fans seemed to fall in love instantly with the character Yord Fandar, played by Charlie Barnett.
During last year's Star Wars Celebration in London, Barnett conversed with Collider and explained how he felt working with Leslye Headland. He said,
"I am a Jedi Knight, and I've got some really cool hair. I can tell you that." Barnett joked without revealing much else about his Star Wars role. "Leslye is an incredible writer, first and foremost, and the entire team. She's a playwright so she is invested in the story. I think what's most exciting for me, and exciting about working on this, is that through the language, through the development of these characters, you realize that bad and good is at the eyes of the beholder. You know, things are so multilayered and complicated, and it takes a really talented person to write a person that you can see from all of those angles."
Despite initial backlash over its inclusion of homosexual characters, fans are now enthusiastically embracing the series, "The Acolyte"!
