This Aayla Secura Cosplay Looks Straight Out Of The Movies

A Star Wars cosplayer has nailed the look of Twi'lek Jedi Master Aayla Secura from the prequel trilogy.

While Aayla Secura isn't a major character in the Star Wars movies and shows, she's still a fan favorite. Even though she may not be seen as one of the strongest Jedi, she's unique as one of the few Twi'leks in the Jedi Order.

That Twi'lek identity makes this cosplay even more impressive. It’s a difficult look to pull off, but this Aayla Secura cosplay, shared by sailorvirgo on Instagram, does it perfectly.

It's really nice to see Aayla Secura portrayed in a positive way, since in the past, like other Twi'lek women, she was often overly sexualized in the Star Wars series.

However, that's not the worst part of her story in the franchise.

Aayla Secura's death in Star Wars is one of the most heartbreaking.

While her character is tied to the history of Twi'lek women being overly sexualized in Star Wars (a trend that Aayla started to break, with Hera Syndulla doing so even more), her story is troubling for a much darker reason.

Her death during Order 66 in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith was one of the most disturbing scenes in the movie, and it’s also one of the most well-known aspects of her character.

Although the scene where Anakin Skywalker ignites his lightsaber in front of terrified younglings is the darkest moment of Order 66, Aayla Secura's execution by her clone troopers is also incredibly haunting.

In the movie, Aayla is walking with her troopers when they suddenly receive the order and start shooting at her. Even after she falls, they keep firing, making her death even more tragic.

This led many to question whether the clone troopers really wanted to kill the Jedi. At the time, it wasn’t clear why they turned against the Jedi other than following Palpatine's order.

Later, in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it was revealed that the clones had inhibitor chips that forced them to carry out Order 66 against their will, and that it was their worst nightmare.

Before that was explained, Aayla's death seemed like proof that the clones had cruelly betrayed the Jedi. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, but her death remains one of the hardest to watch in Revenge of the Sith.

Given her tragic backstory, it's really heartwarming to see Aayla Secura represented in a positive way through this Star Wars cosplay.
